El vehículo utilitario ligero BJ2022 de 0,5 toneladas fue desarrollado por Beijing Automobile Works (BAW) para funciones de mando y enlace. El Ejército Popular de Liberación de China (EPL) emitió la oferta inicial para un sucesor de la serie BJ2020S en 1999, y BAW fue elegido entre diez contendientes en 2002 como contratista para desarrollar el vehículo utilitario ligero de próxima generación.
BAW reveló su diseño BJ2022 Yongshi (Guerrero Valiente) en 2005. Después de una prueba de tres años por parte del PLA, el vehículo fue aprobado para la producción en serie en 2007. La primera variante de producción se lanzó en agosto de 2007 y la entrega al PLA se inició poco después.
El BJ2022 es un vehículo con tracción en las cuatro ruedas diseñado con una gran capacidad de desplazamiento todoterreno. El vehículo está disponible en dos versiones: la versión estándar de cinco plazas (BJ2022 JC) y la versión de batalla larga de ocho plazas (BJ2022 JLC). La carrocería del vehículo está equipada con un techo desmontable sobre un bastidor de soporte. Posee seis anillas que le permiten ser helitransportado. El vehículo también tiene la opción de equiparse con un cabrestante electrónico delantero o trasero para recuperación automática.
El vehículo está propulsado por un motor diésel turboalimentado de 3.152 litros, refrigerado por líquido, que proporciona 101,5 kW a 3.600 rpm. La caja de cambios manual tiene cinco marchas adelante y una marcha atrás. El motor puede arrancar en 10-20 segundos a -30°C, o en 30-45 segundos a -40°C. El vehículo dispone de un depósito de combustible principal de 85 litros y un depósito auxiliar de 18 litros. La autonomía máxima es de 1.000 km.
El vehículo dispone de un sistema dual de navegación por satélite (GPS y GLONASS) y un sistema de comunicación por radio grupal. Tiene postes para colocar dos antenas de radio. A través de un gestor de datos se conectan diferentes sistemas electrónicos o de comunicación. La fuente de alimentación de 12/24V.
Lleva cinco soldados, incluido el conductor. El parabrisas se puede plegar sobre el capó y quitar las ventanillas superior y lateral para reducir la altura del vehículo. Tiene enganche de remolque y puede arrastrar remolques ligeros o piezas de artillería con un peso máximo de 500 kg.
El BJ2022 se ha exportado a Filipinas, Siria, Sri Lanka y República Dominicana.
The BJ2022 0.5t light utility vehicle was developed by Beijing Automobile Works (BAW) for command and liaison roles. The Chinese People Liberation Army (PLA) issued the initial bid for a successor to its BJ2020S series vehicles in 1999, and BAW was chosen from ten contenders in 2002 as the contractor to develop the next generation light utility vehicle.
BAW revealed its BJ2022 Yongshi (Brave Warrior) design in 2005. Following a three-year trial by the PLA, the vehicle was approved for serial production in 2007. The first production variant rolled out in August 2007, and the delivery to the PLA commenced shortly after.
The BJ2022 is a four-wheel driven vehicle designed with strong off-road travelling capability. The vehicle is available in two versions: the standard five-seat version (BJ2022 JC) and the eight-seat long wheelbase (BJ2022 JLC) version. The body of the vehicle is fitted with a removable roof over a supporting frame. There are six hoist rings for sling under the helicopter. The vehicle also has the option to be fitted with a front- or rear- electronic winch for self recovery.
The vehicle is powered by a liquid-cooled, 3.152-litres, turbo-charged diesel, providing 101.5kW at 3600 rpm. The manual gear box has five forward gear and one reverse gear. The engine can start within 10-20 seconds at -30°C, or 30-45 seconds at -40°C. The vehicle has a 85-litre main fuel tank and a 18-litre auxiliary tank. The maximum range is 1,000 km.
The vehicle has a dual satellite navigation system (GPS and GLONASS) and group radio communication system. It has the posts to fit two radio antennas. Different electronic or communication systems are connected via a data bus. The onboard power supply is 12/24V.
It carries five soldiers, including the driver. Windscreen can be folded over the bonnet and top and side windows removed in order to reduce vehicle height. It has a trailer hitch and can tow light trailers or artillery pieces with a maximum weight of 500 kg (1,100 lb).
The BJ2022 has been exported to the Philippines, Syria, Sri Lanka, and the Dominican Republic.
