El contenido de la caja comprende dos grapas, una pequeña hoja de calcas, las instrucciones y una pieza transparente para el cristal del parabrisas. Además del camión, pueden montarse tres figuras, cinco bidones de combustible y su carrito de transporte. A pesar de llevar décadas en el mercado, este molde aún se defiende bien del paso del tiempo. Tanto es así, que Hasegawa acaba de sacarlo a escala 1/48 como complemento a un Ki-45 de edición limitada con nuevas figuras. Aunque las figuras, carro de transporte y bidones parecen (por las fotos que he visto en la web del fabricante) mejores que sus hermanos menores, el camión es básicamente el mismo.
El detalle es aceptable para la escala, apenas hay ligerísimas rebabas en algunas piezas y escasas marcas de eyector en lugares poco visibles. El encaje del chasis, la cabina y el tanque de combustible es muy bueno, marca de la casa podríamos decir, y no necesitan masilla. En la parte negativa hay que mencionar el hecho de que la cabina, el capó y las puertas vienen en sólo dos piezas, sin posibilidad de mostrar el interior. Éste a su vez es bastante parco y contiene el volante, la palanca de marchas, el asiento y los pedales, que se encuentran pegados al suelo del chasis. La pieza transparente del parabrisas es fina y muy clara, pero faltan los cristales de las ventanillas (aunque dudo que estos camiones los llevaran) y algo con que tapar los tres ventanucos traseros del toldo.
Los detalles exteriores son bastante mejores, por más que también se nota la ausencia de algunos elementos, como los retrovisores. Por abajo, cada rueda cuenta con suspensión de ballesta y la transmisión con su eje. En la parte central hay dos pequeñas cajas de herramientas y la rueda de repuesto. El tanque de combustible (quizá lo mejor de la maqueta) viene detallado con diferentes conductos y grifos. Las figuras están fabricadas en una sola pieza a excepción de los brazos. Las poses son bastante rígidas y tal vez la única realmente útil sea la del conductor. El carro de transporte tiene a mi modo de ver unas dimensiones algo exageradas para la escala y no sería mala idea mandarlo directamente a la caja de sobras. Por contra los bidones de combustible son bastante buenos (si bien los aros de refuerzo parecen grandes) y pueden lucir muy bien en cualquier escena.
Las instrucciones muestran dos versiones básicas del camión: la del ejército japonés en kaki y la de la armada en azul marino. Una de las matrículas de la hoja de calcas corresponde a la versión del ejército, pero sobre la otra no se señala nada. Hay también dos misteriosos rótulos que aparecen colocados sobre la parte superior del parabrisas, pero cuyo sentido desconozco pues las instrucciones están en japonés.
En resumen, esta es una maqueta tanto sencilla de montar directamente de caja, como de pintar y que puede mejorar cualquier escena a esta escala. Recomendada a modelistas de cualquier nivel de experiencia.◊
The content of the box comprises two grey sprues, a small decal sheet, the instructions and a clear part for the windscreen glass. Apart from the truck, we can also build three figures, five fuel drums and a small trolley to carry them. In spite of the time since it was first released, the kit has avoided aging quite well. So much so, that Hasegawa has just released a 1/48 tooling of this vehicle with new figures and trolley for their limited edition Ki-45. Although the figures, drums and trolley are all brand new, the truck seems basically the same as its smaller old brother.
Detail is still acceptable for the scale, there’s only very slight flash on some parts and a few ejector pins on non-visible areas. The chassis, cab and fuel tank fit perfectly and there’s no need of putty here. On the negative side, one has to mention the fact that the cab, doors and hood come in only two parts, so the interior can’t be shown. The interior itself is rather poor and includes a gear lever, seats, steering wheel and the pedals molded on the chassis floor. The clear part for the windscreen is thin and transparent, but the door windows are missing (if these trucks ever had them) as well as something to cover the three small rear windows of the cab top.
Exterior details are far better, although there are some omissions here too, such as the rear-view mirrors. Under the chassis, each wheel has its own suspension spring and there’s the gearbox and axle. Behind the cab there’s room for a spare wheel, a couple of toolboxes and the fuel tank which comes nicely detailed with a handful of pipes and taps. The figures are molded in just one part except for the arms. Poses are stiff and perhaps the only useful one could be the driver. I think the trolley is a bit overscaled and nothing would be lost if we send it directly to the spare box. On the other hand, the drums are fine (perhaps the rings are too raised) and will surely look right in any scene at the scale.
The instructions show two basic versions of the truck: one for the Japanese army in overall khaki and one for the navy in overall navy blue. One of the plates corresponds to the army version, but nothing is said about the other one. There are also two mysterious signs which are applied on the windscreen whose meaning I don’t know because the instructions are in Japanese.
In short, this is a kit which is both easy to build right from the box and paint and that allows you to improve any scene at this small scale. Recommended to any modeller.◊
