LO MEJOR – THE BEST:

Muy buena apariencia general. Excelente factura de las piezas y detalles. Interiores mejor detallados de lo habitual.

LO PEOR – THE WORST:

No hay posibilidad de mostrar prácticamente nada del interior.

VALORACIÓN – CONCLUSION:

Excelente. Esta es una maqueta que merece la pena hacer simplemente por manejar piezas tan bien acabadas. Necesita experiencia con biplanos.

Este E11A1 de Fujimi lo componen cuatro ligeras bandejas de plástico gris oscuro, más otra con las piezas transparentes. Hay dos hojas de calcas, una de ellas en color y la otra con los fondos blancos para los hinomarus y los códigos alfanuméricos de la cola. A primera vista parece un modelo de muy buena calidad, con líneas muy elegantes y bien trazadas, especialmente en las alas y alerones. Los detalles del motor también han sido muy cuidados, y además no aparecen las temidas marras del molde ni rebabas por ningún lado.

El interior está dividido en tres compartimentos aceptablemente detallados para el piloto, operador de radio y observador. El modelista debe saber que casi desde el principio va a trabajar con piezas transparentes, ya que hay hasta 5 ventanas de observación en la parte delantera que hay que colocar antes de pegar las dos mitades del fuselaje. De entrada, parece que la labor más delicada será ajustar el ala superior sobre sus soportes (Fujimi proporciona una base para esta operación) y arriostrar el avión, pero esto último siempre es un tema delicado con los biplanos. Por lo demás, no parece que el encaje de las demás piezas pueda dar problemas. Se incluye también un soporte base para el modelo terminado.

En lo referente a pintura, sí será conveniente planificar muy bien todo el proceso para luego no encontrar sorpresas, aunque los que ya tengan experiencia con el montaje y pintura de biplanos, no van a encontrar este Laura nada difícil. Las instrucciones proporcionan un sólo esquema de pintura, verde sobre gris de la Marina Imperial, aunque con varios códigos en el timón de cola para diferentes unidades. No puedo decir cuáles pues mis instrucciones están en japonés. Las dos hojas de calcas son de buena calidad e incluyen el panel de instrumentos.

Para un modelista con experiencia en biplanos, este hidro de Fujimi no será un gran reto y saldrá adelante con la facilidad de otras maquetas aparentemente menos complicadas.◊

This Fujimi E11A1 consists of three heat-sealed pouches containing some 50 parts in four dark grey plastic sprues and a clear parts sprue. There is another bag for two decal sheets, one of them in colour and the other with white decals to be set under the red hinomarus or the different tail codes. At first sight the kit looks pretty fine, with smart and correctly traced lines, especially in wings and ailerons. The nacelle and engine details have also been correctly molded, and there is no trace of the feared injection pins.

The interior cockpit is divided into three compartments for the pilot, radio operator and observer with an acceptable level of detail. The modeler should know that he is going to work with clear parts almost from the very beginning, since there are up to 5 windows in the front part of the fuselage that must be glued before joining its two halves. The riskiest task perhaps will be fitting the upper wing in place (Fujimi includes a stand for this operation) and measuring and setting the struts, but this is always a challenge when modeling biplanes. It does not seem the fitting of the rest of parts may cause any further trouble. A plastic stand for the finished model is also included in the kit.

As regards painting, a careful planning of all the process is needed if you do not want unpleasant surprises on the way, although those with more experience building and painting biplanes will not find this Laura especially difficult. The instructions give only one paint scheme, Japanese Navy green over grey, but there are several decal options in the tail rudder for different units. I do not know what units are shown because my instructions are in Japanese. Both decal sheets are good and they include the instrument panel.

For a modeler with biplane experience, Fujimi E11A1 won’t be much of a challenge and it will go together with the ease of many mainstream kits.◊
