LO MEJOR – THE BEST:
- Carlinga decente. Muy buen detalle externo y en los pozos. Opciones de montaje.
- Decent cockpit. Very nice external detail and inside the wheel wells. Assembly choices.
LO PEOR – THE WORST:
- Detalle interno de las ruedas. Ausencia del faro de aterrizaje.
- Inner wheel detail. Lack of landing light.
VALORACIÓN – CONCLUSION:
- El interior mantiene el tipo, pero el notable detalle externo la convierten en una opción muy válida para representar un Skyhawk inicial, del que no hay tantas maquetas como de otras variantes.
- Though cockpit detail looks average in this scale, external detail makes this kit a nice option for an early Skyhawk as there are not so many offers of this variant in the market.
La maqueta
Allá por 2012 Airfix dijo adiós a su antiguo Skyhawk y lanzó un molde renovado de esta maqueta. Esta caja fue el lanzamiento inicial y ha tenido varias secuelas hasta ahora, tanto en solitario como en compañía de otros aviones.
La maqueta es idéntica, salvo las calcas, a la de la segunda edición, revisada en estas páginas hace un tiempo (Douglas A-4B/Q Skyhawk, referencia A03029A). A este artículo remito al lector.
Revisión
La hoja de calcas está impresa por Cartograf y muestra insignias norteamericanas y argentinas, emblemas de unidad, paneles de instrumentos, diversas marcas del fuselaje y depósitos más estarcidos. Los motivos poseen un acabado fino, brillante, buen registro y densidad de color. No hay exceso de soporte.
El folleto de instrucciones es similar al de la primera edición. Tiene un formato A5 y ocho páginas impresas en blanco y negro. Contiene un sumario histórico sobre el avión en varios idiomas, 29 capítulos de montaje y dos páginas de perfiles en color. Las referencias de pintura pertenecen, como siempre en Airfix, a la gama de esmaltes de Humbrol.
En esta ocasión, Airfix ofrece un A-4B de otra unidad también basada en el portaaviones USS Intrepid de la Marina norteamericana en los años 60, además de un aparato camuflado de la Fuerza Aérea Argentina empleado en la Guerra de las Malvinas, a diferencia de la segunda caja donde el avión argentino pertenece a la Armada de ese país.
Valoración
No hay muchas maquetas actualmente para representar los modelos iniciales (A, B y C) de este avión, así que esta es una elección que considerar por el modelista con un pulso por los reactores en general y el Skyhawk en concreto. En el caso del A-4P es una opción complementaria al A-4Q de la segunda caja.
La maqueta cuenta con una buena reproducción del detalle externo en general, aunque flojea un tanto en la carlinga, que no está al mismo nivel del resto, aunque la considero al menos decente. También posee activos que sin duda agradarán al modelista como las alternativas de montaje, entre las que está la de la carga subalar.◊
The kit
Back in 2012, Airfix said goodbye to their old Skyhawk and released a revamped kit. This boxing was the initial release and has had several sequels since then, both alone and with other aircraft.
The kit is identical, except for the decals, to the second edition, reviewed on these pages some time ago (Douglas A-4B/Q Skyhawk, reference A03029A). I refer the reader to that article.
Review
The sheet is printed by Cartograf. It contains US Navy and Argentinian markings, unit badges, instrument panels and consoles, fuselage and fuel tanks markings plus stencils. The decals have a thin and glossy finish. They are in register with good color density. There is no excess of carrier film.
The instructions consist of an 8-page A4 booklet printed in black and white. It shows a historical summary about the aircraft in several languages, 29 assembly chapters and two pages of profiles in color. As usual, paint codes belong to the Humbrol enamel range.
This time, Airfix offers an A-4B from another unit also based on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier from the 1960s, as well as a camouflaged aircraft of the Argentine Air Force used in the Malvinas War, unlike the second kit where the Argentine aircraft belongs to the Navy.
Conclusion
There aren’t many kits currently available to represent the initial versions (A, B, and C) of this aircraft, so this is a choice worth considering for modelers with a passion for jets in general and the Skyhawk in particular. The A-4P is a complementary option to the A-4Q in the second boxing.
The kit features a generally good reproduction of external detail, although the cockpit doesn’t seem quite up to the same standard as the rest. Anyway, I think it is at least decent. It also has features that will undoubtedly please modelers, such as the assembly options, including the underwing load.◊
