VALORACIÓN – CONCLUSION:
- Muy buen detalle externo y un decente interior avalan esta maqueta en cualquiera de sus variadas cajas y resulta una opción muy competitiva a esta escala para cualquier modelista.
- A nice external detail and a decent cockpit makes this kit a good choice in any of its different boxes. It is a very competitive option at this scale for any modeller.
La maqueta
Kovozávody Prostějov ha aprovechado bastante bien las posibilidades que tiene el MiG-19 para el modelismo y ya tienen varias ediciones con versiones de varios países en su catálogo. El molde, como veremos, no está nada mal y K. P. seguramente continuará reeditándolo con calcas y libreas variadas cada cierto tiempo.
La caja trae dos bastidores de piezas, un pequeño bastidor transparente que sólo contiene la cubierta de la carlinga, la hoja de calcas y las instrucciones. El molde no muestra imperfecciones ni restos de plástico o marcas que reseñar. Las piezas están bien moldeadas y son finas. El panelado de las alas y el fuselaje me parece bastante notable y está representado por finas líneas grabadas, limpias y de grosor adecuado para la escala. Lo mismo se puede decir de la multitud de accesos presentes en este avión. El remachado de algunas líneas también es convincente. El número de piezas puede ser engañoso ya que incluye las piezas que representan las pequeñas tomas de refrigeración localizadas alrededor del motor que evitaban su sobrecalentamiento.
Esta edición contiene tres versiones egipcias y una siria, aunque el fabricante no ha estado acertado a la hora de seleccionar los colores, algunas calcas e incluso la elección misma de un aparato sirio, como comentaré más abajo. Las opciones de acabado muestran dos MiG-19S y dos Shenyang F-6, copia china del anterior, tres de ellos datados en 1967.
Carlinga
Los lados de la carlinga vienen limpios y tienen paneles separados que representan una parte del interior de la toma frontal y las consolas laterales, reproducidas con calcas. Hay también un panel que tapa la parte frontal de la carlinga, un panel trasero, el suelo, la palanca de mando, el panel de instrumentos con su calca y un asiento con buena reproducción del reposacabezas y del respaldo acolchado. Los cinturones son de calca.
Tras el panel trasero hay otro panel horizontal que cubre la parte trasera de la carlinga y aún otro más unido al interior de la cubierta. La cubierta viene en una única pieza transparente y no muy fina. En cambio, el panel blindado frontal está bien reproducido.
Fuselaje
Las mitades muestran un panelado muy bien reproducido y no son gruesas. La cola está moldeada con el lado izquierdo. El anillo frontal está separado y contiene la bifurcación de la toma y la cámara del cañón bien descentrada ligeramente a la derecha. Las salidas del armamento ventral están bien definidas y los tubos de las armas son piezas aparte. Tras ellas, hay un panel con detalle excelente que contiene la salida de los casquillos del cañón. El tubo Pitot es muy fino y viene separado.
En la parte posterior del fuselaje vemos los aerofrenos marcados pero en posición cerrada. Tal vez lo más tedioso de esta maqueta sea pegar las numerosas tomas de aire sobre el motor. Afortunadamente, las instrucciones son bastante claras y de gran ayuda. El carenado de cola es de una pieza con aberturas para introducir las toberas, que están moldeadas en dos cilindros cegados en su lado interno y detallados en los bordes externos.
Alas y cola
Las alas están divididas en mitades finas y bien perfiladas. Los paneles están muy bien grabados y los detalles muestran las luces de las puntas adecuadamente marcadas y los carenados de los actuadores de los flaps bien reproducidos. Los pozos están detallados con la estructura interna pero no tienen muy buena definición. El alambrado viene separado en piezas finas y bien perfiladas. El carenado de los cañones también está detallado y los tubos de las armas están perfilados. K. P. tampoco ha olvidado el pequeño dipolo del altímetro en la punta del ala de babor.
Bajo las alas se pueden instalar dos depósitos auxiliares moldeados en mitades y bien panelados y dos lanzacohetes ORO-57K cuyos soportes son piezas separadas. La maqueta incluye dos misiles aire-aire PL-2/PL-5 chinos, copia de los Vympel R-3 rusos, de una pieza, pero las instrucciones señalan que no son aplicables a estas versiones. Los MiG egipcios no los llevaron y por ello serán muy bienvenidos en la caja de sobras.
Como he señalado antes, el timón vertical está moldeado con el fuselaje. Es muy fino y está también panelado como el resto de la maqueta. En la parte posterior se puede añadir la cápsula del paracaídas de freno del F-6 chino como opción. Los estabilizadores están moldeados en una pieza fina que muestra los contrapesos de las puntas y los carenados de los actuadores de los timones bien representados.
Tren de aterrizaje
La pata delantera posee buena definición y lleva tanto el brazo de plegado como parte de la horquilla separados. Esto último es una ventaja a la hora de pegar la rueda separada. Las tapas del pozo tienen el lado interno detallado.
El tren principal tiene también las tapas bien definidas en su interior y se compone de dos patas y dos ruedas. Las primeras están bien perfiladas y muestran los brazos de torsión definidos. Todas las ruedas vienen de una pieza con neumáticos lisos.
Calcas
La hoja lleva impresas insignias egipcias y sirias, matrículas, cinturones, el panel de instrumentos y las consolas de la carlinga, además de líneas diversas para el fuselaje y las alas. Las calcas tienen aspecto brillante y una buena saturación de color sin exceso de soporte.

El folleto está impreso a partir de una hoja de tamaño A4 doblada formando cuatro páginas en color. Contiene un resumen histórico sobre el avión y doce secuencias de montaje con vistas explosionadas claras y referencias de color genéricas. La cara trasera de la caja muestra perfiles a color y una lista de pinturas de Humbrol.
La versión siria incluida en esta caja simplemente no existió nunca, puesto que el país nunca operó el MiG-19. Las versiones egipcias son como poco dudosas en algún caso en lo referente a pintura y en algunas calcas, y en otras claramente erróneas, según leo en la web de Scalemates. Antes de decidir las calcas y la pintura, el modelista debería consultar información fiable al respecto.
Valoración
Tal vez esta sea la mejor maqueta de K. P. que he visto hasta el momento, o mejor debería decir la mejor terminada. Salvo en los pozos, el fabricante no ha dejado zonas con poca definición como suele hacer en muchas ocasiones. El detalle externo, especialmente por las líneas de panel, es notable y el decente interior, que desgraciadamente no se podrá mostrar por la cubierta de una pieza, juegan a favor de esta maqueta en cualquiera de sus cajas. Me parece una opción que el modelista debería considerar si desea hacer un MiG-19 a esta escala.◊
The kit
Kovozávody Prostějov have taken advantage of the possibilities that the MiG-19 has for modelling quite well and they already have a few releases with versions from several countries in their catalogue. The tool, as we will see, is not bad at all and K. P. will surely continue reboxing it with different decals and liveries from time to time.
The box contains two sprues of parts, a small clear sprue that only contains the canopy, the decal sheet and the instructions. The tool does not show blemishes, flash or marks to worry about. The pieces are well molded and thin. Panels on wings and fuselage look remarkable and they are rendered with thin engraved lines, which are clean and having adequate thickness for the scale. The same can be said of the lots of hatches present on this aircraft. There are also rivets on some lines that look convincing. Parts count can be misleading as it includes those representing the small cooling intakes located around the engine that prevented it from overheating.
This box contains three Egyptian and a Syrian aircraft, although the manufacturer has not been successful when it came to selecting the colors, some decals and even the choice of a Syrian machine itself, as I will comment below. Finishing options show two MiG-19S and two Shenyang F-6s, a Chinese copy of the first, three of them dating from 1967.
Cockpit
The cockpit sides come clean and have separate panels representing a part of the front intake interior and the side consoles, rendered in decals. There is also a panel that covers the cockpit front, a rear panel, the floor, the control stick, the instrument panel with a decal and a seat with a good reproduction of the headrest and padded backrest. Belts are included as decals.
Behind the rear panel there is another horizontal panel covering the rear of the cockpit and yet another attached to the inside of the canopy. The canopy comes in a single piece that is transparent and not very thin. However, the front armored panel is well molded.
Fuselage
The halves show nicely detailed panels and are not thick. The tail is molded on the left side. The front ring is a separate piece containing the intake bifurcation and the gun camera slightly offset to the right. The ventral armament troughs are well defined and the barrels are separate pieces. Behind them there is a nice detailed panel containing the cannon ammo chute. The Pitot tube is very thin and comes separate.
Moving on to the rear fuselage we can see the airbrakes marked but in the closed position. Perhaps the most tedious part of this kit is gluing the numerous engine air intakes. Fortunately, instructions are quite clear and helpful. The tail fairing is one piece with openings to insert the nozzles, which are molded in two cylinders closed on the inside and detailed on the outside edges.
Wings and tail
The wings are divided into thin, well-shaped halves. The panels are very well engraved and detail includes properly engraved nose lights and well reproduced flap actuator fairings. The wells are detailed with the internal structure but do not have very good definition. The fences are molded separately in thin, well-shaped pieces. The gun fairings are also detailed and the barrels look fine. K. P. have not forgotten the small radio altimeter dipole on the port wingtip.
Under the wings you can attach two auxiliary tanks molded in halves and two ORO-57K rocket launchers with separate pieces for the racks. The kit includes two one-piece Chinese PL-2/PL-5 air-to-air missiles, a copy of the Russian Vympel R-3, but the instructions show that they are not applicable to these versions. The Egyptian MiGs did not carry them, so they will be very welcome in the box of spares.
As I’ve pointed out before, the vertical rudder is molded with the fuselage. It is very thin and paneled like the rest of the kit. A pod of the Chinese F-6 brake chute can be added here as an option. Stabilizers are molded in one thin piece showing the tip counterweights and rudder actuator fairings.
Landing gear
The front leg has good definition and have both the folding arm and a half of the fork molded separately . The latter is an advantage when gluing the wheel. The covers have raised detail molded on the inner sides.
The main undercarriage also has well-defined covers on the inside and is made up of two legs and two wheels. The first are well outlined and show the torsion arms. All wheels come in one piece with smooth tires.
Decals
The sheet shows Egyptian and Syrian roundels and markings, registers, the seatbelts, the instrument panel and cockpit consoles, as well as several lines for the fuselage and wings. The decals have a glossy appearance and good color saturation without excess of carrier film.
Instructions
The brochure is printed from one A4 size sheet folded into four color pages. It contains a historical summary on the aircraft and twelve assembly sequences with clear exploded views and generic color references. The back of the box features color profiles and a list of Humbrol paints.
The Syrian version included in this box is a mistake as the country never operated the MiG-19. The Egyptian versions are at least doubtful in some cases in terms of paint and in others clearly wrong, according to what I can read on the Scalemates website. Before deciding on decals and paint, the modeller should check reliable information about it.
Conclusion
Maybe this is the best K.P. kit I’ve seen so far. Except for the wells, the manufacturer has not left areas with poor definition as they usually do on many occasions. External detail, especially on panel lines, is remarkable and the decent interior, which unfortunately cannot be shown due to the one-piece canopy, play in favor of this kit. I think this kit is an option that the modeller should consider if he wants to make a MiG-19 at this scale.◊
