VALORACIÓN – CONCLUSION:

Buen inicio del fabricante a esta escala menor en los vehículos civiles. Gustará a los aficionados a los vehículos menos habituales por el decente nivel de detalle y la sencillez de montaje.
A good start at the this smaller scale for Zvezda. It will like to those seeking for something different because detail is quite decent and the kit seems an easy build.

En ocasiones corren nuevos aires por Zvezda y esta vez nos han traído una edición en una escala inusual para el fabricante. Este UAZ-3909 se ha editado en tres versiones de los servicios de emergencias rusos (Gas, Rescate y Bomberos) en acabados de pintura atractivos para los aficionados al tema. La única diferencia entre las tres referencias es la hoja de calcas y la lámina a color que complementa a las instrucciones.

La maqueta viene protegida por la habitual caja de cartón rígido con sobrecubierta impresa a color. En su interior hay dos bastidores de plástico negro, uno de plástico gris, otros dos de piezas transparentes, las calcas y las instrucciones. Las piezas transparentes están protegidas en una bolsa de cierre sellado. Las piezas negras corresponden en su gran mayoría a elementos del chasis y el interior del vehículo, mientras que las grises están destinadas a formar la carrocería. Los bastidores transparentes contienen también piezas para las otras versiones de la maqueta.

El plástico es de calidad ligeramente diferente según el color del bastidor. El gris de la carrocería parece menos rígido y algo más moldeable que el negro, que parece algo más duro. Todas las piezas, sin embargo, son finas en ambos y muestran buena definición para la escala. No hay rebabas y sólo pocos restos de salida de eyector en escasas piezas. Por el contrario, hay muchas marcas negativas que eliminar en el interior de la carrocería, los respaldos de los asientos y el lado inferior del suelo. La buena noticia es que son más bien tenues y sólo darán guerra por su número y no por su dificultad aparente.

La carrocería viene separada en cuatro lados más el techo. El detalle exterior es bueno para la escala, los paneles están bien trazados y los elementos en relieve adecuadamente definidos, como pueden apreciarse en los faros e indicadores delanteros y traseros, con lentes de plástico transparente en ambos casos, los tapones de los depósitos de combustible, las rejillas de ventilación a ambos lados en la parte trasera o las bisagras. Las puertas vienen cerradas. Todas las ventanillas son piezas transparentes dotadas de rebordes internos para pegarlas desde dentro, por ello son un poco gruesas con la excepción del parabrisas, que se pega desde fuera de la maqueta. Esta pieza incluye los limpiaparabrisas moldeados en relieve. Otras piezas exteriores de la maqueta incluyen los retrovisores, que son piezas de plástico negro y la luz de emergencia de plástico transparente cuya posición hay que horadar en el techo antes de pegarlo. Los lados de la carrocería se alinean con el suelo mediante pequeñas pestañas situadas en sus bordes.

El suelo viene de una pieza. Los dos compartimientos principales de la furgoneta están delimitados por un panel intermedio separado. La zona de carga viene vacía, pero el habitáculo delantero está bastante bien detallado. En la parte delantera hay una parrilla frontal bien detallada y otra pieza alargada que intenta representar el motor, aunque no se va a ver nada de ella al pegar el frontal de la carrocería. Un panel intermedio separa el motor del habitáculo. El salpicadero viene separado y se ha de pagar una vez montados los lados de la carrocería. Los instrumentos e indicadores vienen bien detallados, tanto en relieve como grabados y hay calcas para no tener que pintarlos. Esta zona delantera incluye también la columna de la dirección, el volante, la palanca de marchas y dos asientos. No hay pedales, pero sí tenemos los paneles internos de las puertas delanteras, que muestran las manivelas de los elevalunas y los tiradores en relieve.

El bastidor del chasis viene también en una sola pieza moldeada con los paragolpes, las ballestas de la suspensión, la caja de cambios y los soportes de la rueda de repuesto, que hay que añadir antes de pegar el bastidor a la carrocería. El tubo de escape es fino, de una pieza e incluye el silenciador. Los depósitos de combustible sólo se han fabricado en sus mitades inferiores y van pegados directamente sobre el lado inferior del suelo.

La transmisión también es una sola pieza unida a los ejes y a la barra de la dirección. Sólo los diferenciales vienen separados en mitades. La transmisión es una pieza delicada que debe manipularse con cuidado al pegarla sobre las ballestas. Los amortiguadores vienen separados y se añaden después de unir la transmisión al bastidor.

Por una vez Zvezda ha fabricado tanto las llantas como los neumáticos de plástico en lugar de vinilo. Esto ya es una buena noticia, pero además las llantas muestran buen detalle en sus perfiles y llevan sus respectivos códigos alfanuméricos en los neumáticos. Estos códigos están bien realizados, aunque en relieve. La banda de rodadura de los neumáticos, en cambio, no muestra dibujo alguno.

Las calcas están bien impresas en una hoja que contiene marcas del servicio de emergencias, los instrumentos del salpicadero y un juego de matrículas. El fabricante ha añadido un segundo par de matrículas específicas para esta versión en una hoja pequeña aparte.

El folleto de instrucciones tiene tamaño A4 y consta de cuatro páginas impresas en blanco y negro. Muestra un plano numerado de piezas y ocho pasos de montaje muy claros, en los que sólo se echan de menos referencias sobre el color del interior del vehículo. El manual se complementa con una hoja separada impresa a color en papel satinado que muestra perfiles del vehículo para pintar y colocar las calcas, así como una tabla de pinturas con códigos de Zvezda y Tamiya.

Esta edición no está nada mal para ser la primera de Zvezda a esta escala, sobre todo si la comparamos con las clásicas de Heller al mismo tamaño, que resultan muy simplonas. El tema elegido también me parece acertado por inusual, la maqueta está decentemente detallada tanto por dentro como por fuera y la aparente escasa dificultad de montaje la pone al alcance de cualquier modelista. Esperemos que Zvezda nos siga sorprendiendo con más adiciones a esta nueva línea de productos.◊

A new breeze sometimes blows in Zvezda and this time it has brought us a release at an unusual scale for the manufacturer. This 1/43 UAZ-3909 has been issued in three versions corresponding to different Russian emergency services (Emergency Gas Service, Emergency Rescue Service and Fire Service) in attractive paint finishes that will surely like fans of the subject. The only important difference in the three kits are the decals and the color sheet included with the instructions.

The kit is packed in the usual rigid cardboard box with a color printed dust jacket. Inside there are two black plastic sprues, one grey sprue, two sprues containing clear parts, the decals and the instructions. Clear pieces are protected in a self-sealing bag. Most of the black parts correspond to chassis elements and the interior of the vehicle, while the grey ones are intended to build the body. The transparent frames also contain parts for the other kit versions.

Plastic is of slightly different quality depending on the color of the frame. Grey body pieces seem less rigid and somewhat more moldable than the black ones, which look harder. All the pieces, however, are thin in all the sprues and show good definition for the scale. There is no flash and only little ejector pins in a few pieces. However, there are many negative marks to remove on the interior of the body, the backs of the seats and the underside of the floor. The good news is that they are rather shallow and will only be tedious to clean up for their number and not for their apparent difficulty.

The body is separated on four sides plus the roof. The exterior detail is good, panels are nicely engraved and raised detail adequately defined. This is true for headlights and front and rear indicators, provided with clear plastic lenses in both cases, the fuel tank caps, the vents on both body sides and the door hinges. Sadly, the doors are moulded closed. All the windows are clear pieces provided with internal flanges to be glued from the inside, so they are a bit thick but for the windshield, which is glued from the outside. This part includes raised wipers moulded on. Other pieces on the outside include the rear-view mirrors, which are black plastic pieces, and the clear plastic emergency light whose position must be drilled on the roof before gluing it on. The sides of the body are aligned with the floor by means of small tabs on the floor edges.

The floor comes in one piece. The two main compartments of the van are limited by a separate middle bulkhead. The cargo area is empty, but the front cabin is quite well detailed. At the front there is a well-detailed front grill and another long piece that tries to represent the engine, although nothing of it will be seen after attaching the front of the body. An intermediate bulkhead separates the engine from the passenger compartment. The dashboard comes separate and is added once the body sides are built. Instruments and indicators are well detailed, both raised and engraved, and there are also decals, so they don’t have to be painted. This front area also includes the steering column, the steering wheel, the gear lever and two seats. There are no pedals, but we do have the internal front door panels, which show raised window lifter levers and handles.

The chassis frame also comes in one piece molded with the bumpers, leaf springs, gearbox and spare wheel carrier, which is attached before gluing the frame to the body. The exhaust is a single thin piece including the muffler. The fuel tanks only have their lower halves and are glued directly on the underside of the floor.

Transmission is also a single piece attached to the axles and the steering rod. Only the differentials are moulded in halves. Transmission is a delicate part that must be handled with care when gluing it on the leaf springs. The shock absorbers come separate and are added after the transmission is attached to the frame.

For once Zvezda has made both rims and tyres in plastic instead of vinyl. The rims show good detail, and the tyres have their alphanumeric codes moulded on. These codes are well done but raised. Treads on the tyres have no pattern.

Decals are well printed on a sheet containing emergency service markings, the dashboard gauges and switches and a set of license plates. The manufacturer has added a second pair of specific license plates for this version on a separate small sheet.

The A4 instruction leaflet consists of four pages printed in black and white. It shows a numbered parts plan and eight very clear assembly steps, but the interior body colour is not shown. The manual is complemented by a separate sheet printed in color on glossy paper showing vehicle profiles for painting and setting decals, as well as a chart with Zvezda and Tamiya acrylic paints.

This edition is quite good for being Zvezda´s first try at this scale, especially if we compare it with Heller classics at the same size, which are very simplistic. I think the topic chosen is also a hit because it is unusual at this scale. The kit is decently detailed both inside and outside and the apparent low difficulty of assembly makes it suitable for any modeller. Hopefully, Zvezda will continue to add more kits to this new product line.◊
