VALORACIÓN – CONCLUSION:
- Eduard se lo tomó en serio y realizó una edición muy completa y bien detallada. La mejor en su escala hoy día.
- Eduard did not take things for granted and made a very nice and detailed kit of this aircraft. The best at the scale so far.
La maqueta
Esta es la primera edición del Ju 87 a escala 1/144 que Eduard puso a la venta en 2004. También hizo ediciones de otros modelos, como el R, D y G. En 2014 hubo reediciones, pero sólo de las variantes B y G.
La caja contiene un bastidor de plástico, una plancha de fotograbados, una hoja de máscaras adhesivas, las calcas y las instrucciones. El plástico está bien moldeado y las piezas no presentan imperfecciones, más allá de algunos cilindros de eyector que se pueden limpiar sin dificultad. Como es lógico a esta escala, no hay demasiadas piezas, por ello el montaje sólo plantea los inconvenientes de manipular y pegar piezas de fotograbado muy pequeñas. Pese al tamaño, las líneas de paneles y registros están grabadas con precisión y me parecen realistas en tamaño.
Salvando las diferencias que se quieran con escalas mayores, Eduard se tomó la edición en serio, por ello incluyó fotograbados, mascarillas y varias opciones de pintura. Las maquetas del Stuka en esta escala de otras marcas, como Revell o Zvezda, son bastante más básicas y tienen menor despiece y detalle.
Esta caja está dedicada a algunos de los primeros modelos del Ju 87, como el B-1 y -2, empleados en la Guerra Civil Española y en los inicios de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Una de las versiones de pintura muestra el aparato del Mayor Alfons Orthofer, que llegó a Comodoro con rango de Mayor de la Sturzkampfgeschwader 77 realizando un total de 437 misiones antes de su muerte en la URSS en octubre de 1942.
Carlinga
Como es usual en la escala, la carlinga es inexistente y el hueco ni siquiera está abierto. La cubierta transparente es de una sola pieza y tiene un grosor razonable considerando el tamaño. La sección deslizante trasera está bien marcada, pero el resto de la estructura del acristalamiento aparece grabada en lugar de estar en relieve. Este detalle es poco realista, pero tal vez Eduard la hizo de esta manera para que fuese más sencillo pintar las líneas, ya que no hay mascarillas para hacerlo.
La cubierta está detallada con minúsculas piezas de fotograbado para el mástil de la antena y la ametralladora trasera que viene provista de mira.
Fuselaje
Está formado por dos mitades moldeadas con el timón y la deriva. También incluye la toma de aire bajo el morro, los escapes, la toma de aire del lado derecho, así como el eje de la hélice moldeado en una de las mitades. En el interior sólo hay que añadir un pequeño panel que simula el radiador blindado, mientras que en el exterior tenemos dos diminutos estribos de acceso a ambos lados por debajo del borde de salida de las alas.
El cono de la hélice está separado de las palas con huecos para poder introducirlas. Las palas son finas y están bien perfiladas, aunque se deben consultar imágenes para darles la orientación correcta.
Alas y cola
Las alas están moldeadas de una pieza, muestran un diedro suficiente y van unidas al fuselaje mediante pestañas. Las bandas de las juntas de las alas aparecen bien marcadas. Los alerones y flaps son piezas de plástico separadas que van unidas a pequeños resaltes bajo las alas que simulan las bisagras. El tubo Pitot y los frenos de picado son piezas de fotograbado.
Bajo las alas hay dos soportes para armamento, pero Eduard sólo incluyó una bomba con su trapecio de suelta en una pieza de fotograbado. Esta pieza hubiese parecido más realista si se hubiese proporcionado de plástico.
A cola, el timón de dirección está bien marcado e incluso se han reproducido los pequeños huecos de las bisagras. Los estabilizadores son de una pieza con los contrapesos carenados separados, lo mismo que las riostras de refuerzo. Los timones de profundidad también están bien marcados.
Tren de aterrizaje
Las ruedas vienen unidas a las patas carenadas. Eduard incluyó mascarillas para pintar las ruedas, afortunadamente. La rueda de cola está moldeada en una pieza junto con la horquilla y la pata.
Calcas
La hoja está bien impresa por el propio fabricante. Los motivos poseen apariencia fina y aspecto brillante. Incluye cruces alemanas y nacionalistas españolas, matrículas, marcas de cola, insignias de unidad, decoraciones y estarcidos.
Instrucciones
Un folleto de tamaño A5 de ocho páginas impreso en color contiene un plano numerado de piezas, una tabla de pinturas de Gunze Sangyo con equivalencias de Tamiya, Humbrol, Revell y Testors, tres secuencias de montaje y perfiles. Las vistas explosionadas son muy claras.
Los perfiles muestran referencias de color en códigos RLM y Federal Standard con sus equivalencias en pinturas acrílicas de Gunze. Además, una tabla nos ofrece equivalencias entre estas y las de otras marcas. Las opciones de pintura son dos: el aparato de la Legión Cóndor y el del Mayor Orthofer van pintados en RLM 70 y 71 por arriba y RLM 65 por debajo, mientras que el destacado en Libia llevaba FS 33275 sobre RLM 65.
La hoja de mascarillas nos ayuda a pintar la banda del fuselaje del aparato tropicalizado, aunque también hay una calca para representarla. Además, hay máscaras para pintar las puntas de las alas blancas en el avión de la Legión Cóndor.
Valoración
Aunque la edición cuenta con piezas de fotograbado para detallar ciertos elementos, algunas de ellas serían más realistas si se hubiesen hecho de plástico, como la ametralladora, el tubo Pitot, el mástil, y algunas otras. Con todo, el tamaño, el número de piezas y la relativa sencillez de montaje de esta maqueta no debe llevar a engaño, puesto que se trata de una edición muy completa y en general bien detallada. Hoy día es sin lugar a dudas la mejor del Stuka a esta escala.◊
The kit
This is the first edition of Eduard 1/144 scale Ju 87, a kit that was released in 2004. The company also released other variants, such as the R, D and G. In 2014 the B and G kits were re-issued again, but not the R and D.
The box contains a plastic sprue, a photo-etched fret, a sheet of adhesive masks, the decals and the instructions. Plastic is well molded and parts are free from blemishes except for a few ejector pips that can be easily cleaned. Due to the scale, there are not too many pieces, so assembly only poses the difficulty of handling and attaching very small PE pieces. Despite the size, panels and registers are finely etched and look realistic in size.
Saving the differences with larger scales, Eduard took the edition seriously, for this reason they included photo-etched parts, masks and a variety of painting choices. The offers at this scale from other companies, such as Revell or Zvezda, are much more basic and have less detail.
This box is dedicated to some of the early Ju 87 variants, such as the B-1 and -2, used in the Spanish Civil War and in the early stages of World War II. One of the painting versions shows the aircraft flown by Major Alfons Orthofer, who became Commodore with the rank of Major of Sturzkampfgeschwader 77. He reached a total of 437 sorties before his death in the USSR in October 1942.
Cockpit
As usual at the scale, the cockpit is non-existent and the gap is not even open. The clear canopy is one piece and reasonably thick considering the size. The rear sliding section is well marked, but the rest of the glazing structure is etched rather than raised. This detail is unrealistic, but maybe Eduard did it this way to make it easier to paint the lines, since there are no masks to do this.
The canopy is detailed with tiny photo-etched parts for the antenna mast and the rear machine-gun that includes a tiny sight.
Fuselage
It is made up of two halves including the rudder and fin. It also includes the air intake under the nose, the exhausts, the intake on the right side, as well as the propeller shaft molded in one of the halves. Inside we only have to add a small panel that simulates the armored radiator, while on the outside we have two tiny footholds on both sides below the trailing edge of the wings.
The spinner is separated from the blades and is provided with holes to insert them. The blades are thin and well outlined, although images must be checked to place them correctly.
Wings and tail
Each wing is molded in one piece showing a nice dihedral, and have tabs to attach them to the fuselage. The bands on the wing joints are well marked. The ailerons and flaps are separate plastic pieces that are attached to small points under the wings that simulate the hinges. The Pitot tube and the dive brakes are photo-etched parts.
Under the wings there are two bomb racks, but Eduard only included a bomb with its release in a photo-etched piece. As other parts in this kit, this would have looked more realistic if it had been provided in plastic.
The rudder is marked and even the small gaps in the hinges have been rendered. The stabilizers are nicely engraved and the faired counterweights are molded separately. The braces are also PE pieces.
Undercarriage
The wheels are attached to the fairings. Eduard included masks to paint the wheels, fortunately. The tail wheel is molded in one piece together with the fork and the leg.
Decals
The sheet is printed by Eduard. Decals look thin and show a glossy appearance. The sheet includes German crosses and Spanish Nationalist roundels, registers, tail markings, unit badges, a shark mouth, and some stencils.
Instructions
An 8-page A5 brochure printed in color contains a numbered parts plan, a Gunze Sangyo paint chart with matches in Tamiya, Humbrol, Revell and Testors paints, three assembly sequences and profiles. The exploded views are very clear.
The profiles show color references in RLM and Federal Standard codes with their equivalents in Gunze acrylic paints. In addition, a table offers matches with other paint ranges, as said. There are two painting options: the Condor Legion aircarft and that belonging to Major Orthofer are painted in RLM 70 and 71 above and RLM 65 below, while the one operating in Libya had FS 33275 over RLM 65.
The sheet of masks helps us to paint the fuselage band of the aircraft based in Lybia, although there is also a decal for it. Also, there are masks to paint the white wingtips on the Condor Legion aircraft.
Conclusion
Although the PE pieces are a nice addiion to the release, some of them would have been more realistic if they had been provided in plastic, such as the machine gun, the Pitot tube, the mast, and some others. However, the size, the number of parts and the relative ease of assembly should not be misleading, since this is a very complete and generally well detailed edition. Today it is unquestionably the best Stuka at this scale.◊
