Los de Kovozávody Prostějov han encontrado un hueco modelístico para colar del tirón tres maquetas del pequeño avión Zlín (también denominado Let) Z-37 y apodado Čmelák (Abejorro) en la República checa. Las otras dos cajas contienen aviones de la antigua Alemania Oriental (Z-37A, KPM0109) y un variado de aparatos británicos, fineses y checos (Z-37, KPM0120).
La maqueta completa viene en una sola bolsa con autocierre y comprende dos bastidores de piezas de color gris, un bastidor de piezas transparentes en bolsa aparte, las calcas y las instrucciones. El plástico es de buena calidad, algo blando, pero fino y bien moldeado. No hay rebabas, pero se nota bastante la presencia de marcas positivas dejadas por el expulsor. Están situadas en lugares no visibles, aunque algunas habrán de rebajarse (ni siquiera eliminarse completamente) para poder pegar las piezas por tener excesivo relieve. Al molde en general se le observa calidad, especialmente notable en la representación de las superficies corrugadas de alas y planos de cola.
El interior es sencillo, pero decentemente detallado. Se compone de un suelo y tres paneles (dos laterales con representación de algún instrumental y uno posterior), asiento, palanca de mando, el panel de instrumentos más una pieza que desconozco, situada entre los pedales moldeados en el suelo. En mi opinión hay un par de detalles por mejorar, como la ausencia de indicación para pegar la calca de los instrumentos al panel y el asiento pegado directamente sobre el suelo, lo que le da escasa altura. El interior es muy visible a través de los grandes paneles acristalados, por ello no vendrían mal algunas mejoras en forma de resina o fotograbado.
El fuselaje consta de dos mitades sin guías de alineación. La estructura externa está bien representada y el interior parece lo bastante fino como para aceptar la carlinga completa. Una pieza redonda sobre el techo representa el acceso del depósito de fertilizante, aunque resulta demasiado prominente comparado con la real.
Las alas vienen distribuidas en tres piezas (dos mitades superiores y una inferior). Los extremos internos de las alas tienen sendas marcas que hay que rebajar como paso previo a la unión de las mitades de las alas. Las superficies internas están ahuecadas para formar un perfil bastante robusto cuando las dos mitades están unidas y además encajadas en el fuselaje. Las superficies exteriores están muy bien conseguidas, con una combinación de superficies lisas y paneles corrugados verosímiles para la escala. Además, las superficies de pisado tienen textura reticulada, diferente al resto. Tanto los flaps como los slats son piezas separadas en cada ala. Los planos de cola vienen en piezas completas, por un lado el timón, y por otro los estabilizadores.
La zona del motor es muy sencilla. Se compone de dos piezas (superior e inferior) para el carenado, una pieza redonda que representa los álabes del sistema de refrigeración y un anillo frontal separado. La hélice es de una pieza y presenta buena hechura. A los lados del capó hay que colocar dos escapes sencillos y tomas de aire que no vienen horadados.
El tren de aterrizaje principal está compuesto por las patas de una pieza, amortiguadores de tijera en piezas separadas, las ruedas y los guardabarros separados también. Hay además dos finas piezas para los refuerzos de cada pata. La rueda de cola está bien detallada en tres piezas: una pata, un refuerzo y la propia rueda, que muestra algún detalle en su neumático.
El aspersor ventral se compone de tres piezas bastante abultadas en forma troncos de cono invertidos. En una de ellas también hay una marca positiva de eyector que eliminar antes de pegarla.
El bastidor transparente es realmente excepcional. Hay dos pequeñas ventanillas laterales y una gran cubierta de la carlinga de buen tamaño y muy bien conseguida. La pieza es fina y de una gran transparencia, sin distorsiones.
Las calcas, realizadas por el propio fabricante, están bien impresas en una hoja de tamaño mediano. Incluyen principalmente matrículas de varios tamaños, banderas y el panel de instrumentos. Su apariencia es fina y los colores y registro están adecuadamente conseguidos.
Las instrucciones se presentan en una hoja de tamaño A-4 doblada por su mitad para formar cuatro páginas. Contienen un resumen histórico-técnico del avión en checo e inglés, un plano de localización de piezas (estas no vienen numeradas en los bastidores) y 15 secuencias de montaje claras y sencillas de seguir. Hay un par de errores leves, ambos opuestos: la ausencia de indicación para pegar la calca del panel de instrumentos y la indicación de pegar una inexistente calca para la zona de pisado en el ala de estribor.
Esta humilde avioneta fumigadora me parece una buena aportación de KP al mundo de los aviones civiles. Sin duda agradará más a los aficionados a estos aparatos y acaso también a los que busquen algo sencillo pero diferente para su vitrina con versiones de pintura atractivas. La recomiendo a modelistas con cierta experiencia.◊
Kovozávody Prostějov have found a little hollow in the modelling jungle to release this little Zlín Z-37 cropduster, nicknamed Čmelák (Bumblebee) in the Czech Republic, in three boxes this year. You can also find the kit in East German versions (Z-37A, KPM0109) and in an assortment of several Z-37s from UK, Finland and the Czech Republic (KPM0120).
The complete kit come in a self-sealing bag and comprises two grey plastic sprues, one clear sprue, the decal sheet and the instructions. Plastic looks good, a bit on the soft side, but thin and well moulded. There is no flash present on parts, but some raised ejector pin marks are quite evident. All of them are not visible, but some will have to be sanded off before attaching the parts. The tooling is good overall, the rendering of corrugated surfaces on wings and tailplanes being especially outstanding.
The cockpit is simple but comes decently detailed. We have a floor, two side panels representing some gadgets, a rear bulkhead, a control stick, a seat, an instrument panel and another part which goes on the floor between the pedals, moulded on the floor. In my opinion there is a couple of details to be improved, such as the lack of indication to add the decal for the instrument panel and the seat, which is attached directly on the floor and it is very low. The interior is quite visible through the large clear canopy, for this it would be nice to improve it somehow in the form of resin or PE aftermarkets.
The boxy fuselage comes in two halves without alignment pins. The exterior structure is quite nicely rendered, and the interior side looks thin enough to hold the cockpit when finished. A round part on the floor represents the opening to fill the fertilizer tank, although it seems too thick when compared with the real counterpart.
The wings come in three parts (two upper sections and one below). The interior ends of the wings have raised marks which need sanding before attaching the wing halves, a task which does not look complicated. The internal surfaces are hollowed out to form a fairly sturdy profile when the two halves are joined and fit into the fuselage. The exterior surfaces are very well represented, with a combination of smooth surfaces and realistic corrugated panels for the scale. In addition, the step surfaces have a reticulated texture, different from the rest. Both the flaps and the slats are separate parts in each wing. The tailplanes have one separate part for the rudder and one for the stabilizers.
The engine section is quite simple. The cowling comes in halves (top and bottom) and inside it we will include another part for the round engine fan and finally a separate front ring is attached to the cowling rim. The propeller comes in one nicely moulded part and looks good. On the cowling sides we also have a couple of air intakes and two small exhausts which are not hollowed out.
The main landing gear comprises two struts, scissors-like torque arms in separate parts and the wheels with separate mudguards. There are also two thin supplementary struts for each leg, while the tailwheel is well made in three parts (wheel, main and side strut). The small wheel shows some faint detail on the tyre.
The belly sprinkler consists of three fairly bulky pieces shaped like inverted cone trunks. In one of them there is also a positive ejector mark to remove.
The clear sprue is outstanding. It includes two small side windows and a great boxy canopy which is really thin, clear and without distortion. This particular part is one of the best things I have found in this kit.
The decals, printed by the own manufacturer on a medium-sized sheet, are really nice. They show different registration numbers in two sizes, small flags and the instrument panel. They look fine and thin and are printed in good register and colors.
Instructions are printed on a folded A-4 sheet. They include a short historical and technical introduction to the aircraft written in Czech and English, a parts location plan and 15 clear assembly steps. There are two slight mistakes: the lack of indication to apply the instrument panel decal, as said above, and the reference to a missing decal for the wing walk on the starboard wing.
KP’s humble cropduster seems a nice addition to aircraft modelling that unquestionable will please civil aircraft fans and those who look for something simple but different and with attractive paint versions for their cabinets. I recommend it to modelers with some experience.◊
