- Plástico grueso. Encaje difícil. Hueco de la carlinga en el fuselaje erróneo. Interior simplificado (a pesar de los fotograbados).
- Thick plastic. Difficult fit. Inaccurate canopy hollow on the fuselage. Simplified interior (in spite of the PE fret).
VALORACIÓN – CONCLUSION:
- Maqueta desigual. Algunos buenos detalles, pero con simplificaciones y errores. Hay alternativa en plástico de AZ Model y en resina de Planet Models. Para modelistas con cierta experiencia en maquetas multimedia.
- Uneven kit. Good details contrast with simplified parts and some mistakes. There is an alternative plastic kit by AZ Model and a resin kit by Planet Models. For modellers with some experience in multimedia kits.
De líneas generales muy similar al Ki-32 Mary excepto el motor, el Ki-30 de Pavla es en apariencia bastante fácil de montar. La maqueta se resume en apenas una bandeja de plástico, el transparente vacuformado, una pequeña bandeja con 10 piezas de fotograbado y las calcas, que incluyen el panel de mandos. En total, unas 40 piezas incluyendo los fotograbados. El plástico es algo grueso y parece difícil de trabajar. Los paneles en alas y fuselaje son incisos, aunque vienen demasiado tenues y tal vez convendría repasarlos un poco.
Como suele ser habitual en los modelos de este fabricante, hay algunas piezas que deberemos construir, como por ejemplo los transparentes del habitáculo del bombardero (cuyas ventanillas también habrá que abrir), las luces de correteo de las alas y los tubos de escape del motor. Éste, por cierto, viene en una sola pieza muy poco detallada.
Con los fotograbados podremos construir, aparte del panel de mandos, la antena, el característico tubo Pitot en forma de Z, la ametralladora y su soporte curvo. El fotograbado de la ametralladora no representa ni de lejos su modelo, la Te-4 del Ejército Imperial, mal llamada a veces Type 89 orientable dado que esta última era doble según R. C. Mikesh. Lo mejor sería sustituirla por otra de construcción propia. El interior, aparte de estos fotograbados, apenas incluye los asientos de los tripulantes y la palanca de mandos. Poca cosa. Quizás hubiese sido mejor incluir algunas piezas más en el interior y excluir el juego de fotograbados.
Conviene estudiar bien las instrucciones antes de comenzar el montaje ya que algunos pasos se dan por sentados y pueden dar lugar a equivocaciones. Algunos ejemplos: el encaje de la hélice en el motor está mal reflejado en las instrucciones y nos dará problemas si no andamos con cuidado. Así mismo deberemos escoger la posición del asiento del bombardero (hacia delante o hacia atrás) cuando trabajemos el interior del aparato y no tras haber cerrado el fuselaje. Esta opción figura ya en el paso 4 y no en el 2 como sería lógico.
Se pueden realizar 3 versiones del Ki-30. La primera presenta el típico esquema de cuatro colores de los aviones japoneses de finales de los años 30 perteneciente al 2º Chutai, 10º Hiko Sentai basado en China en 1939. Las otras dos versiones, completamente en gris claro, corresponden a los 31º y 32º Hiko Sentais. Las calcas de Extratech son correctas para las versiones que se incluyen.
En resumen, este modelo de Pavla no debe ofrecer especiales dificultades para quien lo monte de caja y haya hecho ya otras maquetas multimedia. Si tuviera que buscar un perfil de modelista al que recomendárselo, quizás sería adecuado para quien busque iniciarse en el scratch de manera gradual.◊
Very similar to the Ki-32 Mary except for the engine,Pavla Ki-30 is apparently very easy to build. The model comprises just one plastic sprue, the vacuoformed canopy, a tiny set of 10 PE parts and the decals, which include the instrument panel. Altogether there are some 40 parts including the PE. The plastic is a bit thick and it seems difficult to work. The panel lines in wings and fuselage are faintly engraved and they may need to be retraced with a scribber.
As usual with Pavla kits, there are some parts which must be scratchbuilt, such as the small clear parts in the bombardier’s compartment -whose windows must also be opened-, the navigation lights and the engine exhaust pipes. The engine, by the way, comes in one badly detailed part.
Using the PE parts, you can build, apart from the instrument panel, the aerial, the Z-shaped Pitot tube, the loop antenna and the rear machine-gun. The PE machine-gun does not look like the real Japanese army Te-4 (sometimes wrongly called Type 89 flexible, which was in fact a twin machine-gun according to R. C. Mikesh). Perhaps it would be a wise choice to scratchbuild it. Even with the PE parts the cockpit interior is very poor with only the crew’s seats and the control column. Nothing much. It would have been a better idea to include some more cockpit parts and leave the PE out.
It is advisable to study the instructions carefully before starting the model because some steps are taken for granted and can mislead you. Some examples: the fitting of the propeller and the engine is badly shown in the instructions and will be difficult if we are not careful. In the same way, we should choose the position of the bombardier’s seat when we assemble the interior cockpit and not (obviously) when the fuselage is closed. The position is shown as an option in step 4 and not in step 2, as it would be logical.
You can choose one of three versions for your Ki-30. The first one belonged to 2nd Chutai, 10th Hiko Sentai based on China in 1939 and shows the typical four-color paint scheme of the late 30’s Japanese aircraft. The other two versions are painted in Japanese grey and belonged to 31st and 32nd Hiko Sentais. The Extratech decals are quite enough for the versions included in the kit.
Although perhaps lacking in better details, this Pavla model should not be troublesome if you want to assemble it out of the box and have built other multimedia kits. It is also a good kit for those wishing to start scratchbuilding gradually.◊
