LO MEJOR – THE BEST:
- Buen encaje. Detalles incisos finos y muy correctos. Interior detallado. Motor (en plástico, pero muy bueno).
- Good fitting. Thin, engraved and fairly correct panel lines. Detailed interior. Engine (tooled in styrene but quite good too).
LO PEOR – THE WORST:
- Ausencia de puntos de unión en tren de aterrizaje y depósitos de combustible. Carenado y ruedas en una sola pieza.
- No guide marks to glue landing gear and fuel tanks to wings. Fairings and wheels moulded in one part.
VALORACIÓN – CONCLUSION:
- Excelente por la calidad y cantidad de detalles. Para modelistas con experiencia en maquetas multimedia.
- Excellent value for the quality/quantity of details. Recommended to modelers with experience in multimedia kits.
Compartiendo molde con los modelos Ki-27b y Ki-79, nos llegó en 2005 esta maqueta que se presenta en una única bolsa de plástico dividida pulcramente en tres partes que contienen las calcas, un fotograbado de Eduard y dos pequeñas bandejas de plástico. La primera impresión de éstas es algo decepcionante, pues en realidad no hay tantas piezas como uno espera, pero observadas en detalle, uno repara en la calidad del molde. El plástico posee una dureza media, sin rebabas ni apenas marcas de eyector, lo cual facilitará mucho su montaje, que, por otra parte no será nada complicado. El encaje es bastante bueno y las líneas de paneles son incisas y del ancho correcto para la escala.
Comparado con los libros de Kagero y Famous Airplanes of the World, las dimensiones y formas son correctas. En lo referente al montaje sólo presenta en apariencia dos inconvenientes, menores si se comparan con los antiguos moldes de MPM-Special Hobby y Pavla. Uno es el borde de salida de las alas, que viene algo grueso, tampoco mucho, y el otro es la ausencia de puntos de guía para unir el tren de aterrizaje y los depósitos de combustible a las alas. A cambio, RS Models nos proporciona el interior completo en fotograbado a excepción del suelo (con la posibilidad de montar el asiento de este material o de plástico), un motor excelente para ser también de plástico y el timón de dirección separado. La hélice es así mismo muy buena tanto de formas como de tamaño. Se ofrece la opción de montar o no el carenado del tren de aterrizaje. La versión con carenas viene moldeada en una sola pieza junto con la rueda, lo que desmerece algo, pero puede darse por buena.
En el interior, aparte de lo ya reseñado, cabe notar la inclusión de las dos ametralladoras en plástico con sus respectivas cintas de munición en fotograbado. Aunque no se verán, pues el Ki-27 disparaba a través del motor, es un detalle que se agradece. Ojo a la cabina vacuforme, pues sólo se nos proporciona una sola pieza.
Unas calcas muy buenas (incluyen estarcidos en las alas, morro y tren de aterrizaje) y unas instrucciones consistentes en dos hojas A4 en forma de folleto redondean esta maqueta, que parece concentrar muchas virtudes en poco espacio. Los colores vienen indicados en las gamas de Humbrol y Agama. En esta versión las opciones de pintura son poco vistosas, pues todas ellas muestran aparatos pintados de gris con cola o morro rojo o negro, típicos del teatro de operaciones chino.
Como conclusión, no cabe sino elogiar a RS Models por esta maqueta venida a sustituir a la inmemorial de Hasegawa, de la que por cierto han copiado el dibujo del aparato que aparece en la caja. A la espera de ver lo que ofrece el nuevo Nate de ICM, esta es sin duda la mejor opción para los que quieran tener un Ki-27 en su colección.◊
This kit, first released by RS Models in 2005, shares the tooling with the Ki-27b and Ki-79. The content of the box comes neatly packed in one bag divided into three sections containing the decals, an Eduard PE fret and two small sprues. At first sight the impression is a bit disappointing because there aren’t so many parts as one hopes to find, but a closer inspection reveals the quality of the tooling. The plastic is neither too soft nor too hard, showing just a few ejector pins, a fact which will make assembling easier. The fitting of parts is quite good, and the panel lines are recessed and have the correct width for the scale.
Dimensions and shapes are correct if we compare the kit to the profiles shown in the books by Kagero and FAOW. The assembly has only two drawbacks that are in fact nitpicking compared to those that the old MPM-Special Hobby and Pavla kits had: one of them is that both trailing edges need some sanding, not too much either, and the other is the lack of guide marks to glue fuel tanks and landing gear to the wings. But in exchange RS Models have included a complete PE interior cockpit (excepting the floor) with the choice between a PE or a plastic seat, a superb plastic engine and a separate rudder. The propeller is also very good both in size and shape, and there is still another option for building the wheels with or without fairings, but these have been moulded in just one part with the wheels. A simplistic detail for such a good kit.
Apart from what I’ve said about the interior, you also have a couple of machine-guns in plastic and their PE ammunition belts. Although they won’t be seen (the Ki-27 guns fired through the engine and propeller), it’s a good detail to include in your model. Be careful with the vacformed canopy, there is only one in this kit.
A fine decal set which includes wing, landing gear and cowling stencils, and two A4 folded sheets for the instructions round this kit off. It really seems to pack lots of good details into the box. Paint colours are given in the Humbrol and Agama ranges. This Ki-27a has rather unattractive options, with the usual overall Japanese light grey and red or black tails and cowling (typical of the Chinese theatre of operations) in all the versions shown.
As a conclusion, one can’t but praise this kit which has finally arrived to replace the age-old Hasegawa Nate, from which RS Models have only copied the artbox. While we wait for the brand new ICM kit to finally arrive to the shops, this is unquestionably the best option for those wishing to have a good 1/72 Ki-27 on their shelves.◊
