Un breve vistazo a las bandejas de esta maqueta nos hará entender enseguida que no necesitaremos ni mucho tiempo, ni tampoco costosos juegos de fotograbado para armar este Kübelwagen que nos ofrece Tamiya. Las piezas, moldeadas en plástico color Dunkelgelb, no tienen rebabas ni marcas de eyector, casi no necesitan lija. Los detalles, tanto incisos como en relieve están muy cuidados y representan fielmente el famoso vehículo alemán.
El montaje puede resumirse en cuatro apartados básicos: construcción del motor y elementos de la transmisión, ensamblaje del chasis, construcción de elementos interiores (asientos, panel de instrumentos, etc.) y finalmente la adición de elementos exteriores como parabrisas, ruedas y puertas. Las ruedas son del tipo mal llamado «de balón» ideales para terrenos difíciles o arena, y dan un toque distintivo a este Tipo 82 comparado con otros Kübelwagen a esta escala.
Las opciones de montaje no pueden ser sino básicas en una maqueta poco complicada: puertas abiertas o cerradas y parabrisas plegado o no. A la hora de montar las ruedas hay que tener cuidado, pues el par delantero es diferente al trasero por su cara interna. Si queremos mostrar las delanteras con algo de giro habrá que realizar ligeras modificaciones en la transmisión, pues esta opción no se contempla como en otras maquetas de Tamiya. Se echa también de menos la inclusión de algún complemento más, aparte de la simple pala que trae, tales como contenedores de agua o combustible. En cambio, sí se nos proporciona una buena figura de plástico en cuatro piezas con cabeza, gorra y un brazo separados.
La pequeña hoja de calcas es mínima pero suficiente para el vehículo, y se compone de dos matrículas y marcas de unidad. Hay incluso cuatro microscópicas calcas para la presión del aire en cada neumático que van colocadas sobre los guardabarros. Sobre la decoración hay poco que añadir, pues ambas opciones en color arena son idénticas.
En resumen, este Kübelwagen es una maqueta de gran calidad, sencilla de montar e ideal tanto para hacerla por sí misma, o como complemento de cualquier viñeta o diorama.◊
Just at first sight it’s easy to realize that we won’t need either much time or expensive brass frets to build and detail this Kübelwagen. Parts come in four small sprues and are molded in Dunkelgelb plastic. They are really clean, without pin marks or flash. One could even say they don’t need sanding. Both engraved and raised details have a fine look and the overall impression is that this is a nice replica of the famous German vehicle.
The assembly can be summed up in just four main steps: building of the engine and transmission, building of the chassis, addition of interior elements (back and front seats, console, etc.) and the exterior main parts such as windshield, wheels and doors. The wheels have wide-tread balloon tyres and give a distinctive touch to this Type 82 compared to other Kübelwagens at this scale.
Building options can’t be but simple in this easy kit: open/closed doors and folded/unfolded windscreen. Front wheels and rear wheels are slightly different on the inward side and some attention must be paid when gluing them. If you want to show them turned, you will have to modify some transmission elements because this is not an option in this kit as in other Tamiya’s wheeled vehicles. I also miss a couple of fuel or water jerrycans as complements to round up this kit, but a good plastic figure in four parts is included.
The decal sheet is tiny but enough for the kit. It comprises number plates and tactical signs. There are also four microscopic decals on the mudguards showing the air pressure of each tyre. There is not much to be said about the painting options as both are overall sand.
This is a really fine-looking Kübelwagen, easy to assemble and worth showing it alone or as a part of any WWII African diorama.◊
