La maqueta
Esta maqueta comparte molde con el MiG-15bis Fagot del mismo fabricante (HobbyBoss 80263) y, como tiene las suficientes diferencias con ella, he decidido dedicarle unas líneas. Para no repetirme en exceso, evito al lector gran parte de la información que ya escribí sobre el Fagot que se le pueda aplicar a este UTI. La revisión puede consultarse en este enlace.
La maqueta comprende dos bastidores de piezas, un bastidor transparente, una hoja de calcas y las instrucciones. Hay tres piezas sueltas correspondientes a las mitades del fuselaje y las alas, que forman una sola pieza ya que están unidas. El despiece es similar al del MiG-15bis, pero no idéntico ya que HobbyBoss cambió el bastidor pequeño con piezas de la carlinga y también el fuselaje. Obviamente, las calcas y las instrucciones difieren igualmente.
Las piezas no traen marcas visibles y aparecen bastante limpias en los bastidores. Al ser idéntico molde, también en esta maqueta hay que retirar numerosos restos de eyector en forma de pequeños cilindros, tarea no difícil pero algo tediosa.
El panelado de las superficies es casi igual que en el MiG-15bis con la excepción de algunas zonas del fuselaje que difieren en el UTI, Las líneas y registros están bien grabados y limpios.
Carlinga
La cubeta de la carlinga contiene dos puestos de pilotaje casi idénticos dotados de palancas de control y consolas laterales con algunos instrumentos marcados. Los asientos son igual de buenos que los del MiG-15bis, con adecuada representación del acolchado característico y están situados a altura ligeramente diferente, lo que es correcto para el entrenador. Hay un panel de instrumentos adicional distinto, más pequeño, pero igual de plano y también sin calcas. Falta la mira de puntería.
La cubierta de la carlinga es una pieza de gran transparencia y muy fina. El parabrisas, menos grueso que en el MiG-15, está muy bien reproducido. Al igual que en el Fagot, la carlinga es de una pieza y no puede mostrarse abierta.
Fuselaje
Así mismo el fuselaje muestra notorias diferencias con la maqueta del MiG-15bis. El despiece es igual y comprende una mitad superior y otra inferior, aunque las piezas son diferentes y captan muchas diferencias del modelo UTI. Los vástagos de unión son diferentes debido a la mayor longitud de la carlinga, pero el ajuste es muy bueno y no deja huecos.
En la pieza superior, el perfil externo de la carlinga y la disposición de los puestos están bien moldeados, con un panel intermedio entre ambos y un buen detalle en la zona trasera, más elevada sobre el perfil del fuselaje.
La mitad inferior muestra una línea de molde muy fina hacia la cola que debe eliminarse. Dos buenas piezas transparentes cubren los huecos del radio compás y la antena circular que están correctamente situados bajo la carlinga.
El armamento consiste en una sola ametralladora moldeada con una sección de la carena. Comparado con el armamento de la maqueta del Fagot resulta algo peor definido y simple. La sección de carena moldeada sobre la panza muestra la salida de los casquillos.
Tanto los aerofrenos como el resto de detalles del fuselaje son iguales que los del MiG-15bis.
Alas y cola / Tren de aterrizaje
Estas dos partes de la maqueta son iguales que las del MiG-15bis y su descripción puede leerse en la revisión mencionada arriba.
Calcas
La hoja está bien impresa y tiene aspecto brillante. Contiene estrellas rusas, distintivos iraquíes y numerales. Los colores parecen bien saturados y los motivos no muestran exceso de soporte.
Instrucciones
Están impresas a color en una hoja A4 doblada formando 4 páginas. Contiene un plano numerado de piezas, dos secciones de montaje con secuencias intermedias muy claras y perfiles complementados por una tabla de colores con equivalencias en pinturas de Gunze, Vallejo, Model Master, Tamiya y Humbrol.
Las opciones de pintura son atractivas y muestran dos aparatos camuflados de los años 80. El ruso lleva una librea de cuatro colores con numeral rojo a proa, mientras el iraquí va pintado en colores desierto.
Valoración
Como en el caso del MiG-15bis la maqueta sale a cuenta considerando su precio, detalle y sencillez de montaje. Como toda maqueta de la serie “Easy Assembly” de HobbyBoss las ventajas enumeradas pagan su peaje, por ello hay omisiones especialmente evidentes en la carlinga, por ejemplo. Con todo, y aunque la maqueta no es la mejor de las posibles en la escala, me parece muy adecuada para modelistas de nivel básico.◊
The kit
This kit shares the tool with the MiG-15bis Fagot release from the same manufacturer (HobbyBoss 80263) and, as it has enough differences with it, I have decided to write a few lines about this kit too. To avoid bothering the reader with mostly the same information I published about the Fagot, you can find a complete review of that kit in this link.
The Midget includes two sprues of parts, a clear sprue, a decal sheet and the instructions. There are three loose pieces corresponding to the fuselage halves and wings, which come in one piece as they are joined by a plastic slat. Parts breakup is similar to the MiG-15bis, but not identical since HobbyBoss changed the small sprue including cockpit parts and also the fuselage. Obviously, the decals and instructions differ as well.
The pieces have no visible marks and appear quite clean on the trays. Being the same tool, it is also necessary to remove some ejector pips from parts, a task that is not difficult but a bit tedious.
Panel lines on surfaces are almost the same as in the MiG-15bis with the exception of some fuelage areas that differ in the UTI. Lines and registers are correctly engraved and clean.
Cockpit
The cockpit tub contains two nearly identical crew stations provided with control sticks and side consoles showing some instruments. The seats are just as good as in the MiG-15bis, with adequate rendering of the characteristic padding and are set at a slightly different height, which is correct for the UTI. There is a different additional instrument panel, but just as flat and also without decals. The sight is missing too.
The canopy is quite transparent and thin. The windshield, less thick than on the MiG-15, is very well reproduced. As with the Fagot, the canopy is in one piece and cannot be showed open.
Fuselage
The fuselage also shows noticeable differences with the MiG-15bis kit. Parts breakup is the same and includes an upper and a lower half, although pieces have different detail and capture many differences from the UTI variant. The connecting pins inside the halves are different due to the longer canopy, but the fit is very good and leaves no gaps.
In the upper part, the external cockpit profile and the layout of the seats are well molded, with an intermediate panel between them and good detail in the rear area, higher on the fuselage profile.
The bottom half shows a very thin seam line towards the tail that will be easily removed. Two nice clear pieces cover the gaps for the radio compass and the circular antenna that are correctly located on the belly under the cockpit.
Armament consists of a single machine-gun molded with a section of the fairing. Compared to the armament in the Fagot kit, it is less well defined and simple. The fairing section molded on the belly shows the opening for the ammo chute.
Both the airbrakes and the rest of the fuselage are the same as those in the MiG-15bis.
Wings and tail / Landing gear
They are the same as in the MiG-15bis and their description can be read in the review mentioned above.
Decals
The sheet is well printed and has a glossy appearance. It contains Russian stars, Iraqi markings and numbers. Colors look well saturated and items do not show excess of carrier film.
Instructions
They are printed in color on an A4 sheet folded in 4 pages. It contains a parts plan, two assembly sections with very clear subassemblies and profiles complemented by a color chart with equivalents in Gunze, Vallejo, Model Master, Tamiya and Humbrol paints.
Paint choices are attractive and show two camouflaged aircraft from the 1980s. The Russian aircraft wears a four-color camo with a red number on the bow, while the Iraqi UTI is painted in desert colours.
Conclusion
As in the case of the MiG-15bis, the kit pays off considering price, detail and ease of assembly. Like any kit in the HobbyBoss “Easy Assembly” series, the advantages also pay their toll in the form of obvious omissions in the cockpit, for example. All in all, and although the kit is not the best possible at this scale, it seems very suitable for beginners.◊
